Feeling like an idiot in a neurotypical world

Rosie Weldon's autistic life

Society was designed by, and for, neurotypicals.

When I came up against a door on a train that I couldn’t open, I felt stupid. I looked to my right and saw someone looking at me as I stood face to face with this door. I felt stupid.

The story of my autistic life is feeling like a bloody idiot when I can’t figure out something so basic. That door on that train must have been walked through thousands of times, how many times had someone stood staring at it like it was Mount Everest?
