Who is Julian Draxler?

Posted by Ross A. Schweitzer on June 20, 2017

Julian was born in Gladbeck, Germany in 1993. At the age of 5 he joined BV Rentfort where he first learned the basics of soccer. He was gifted at a young age and quickly developed. He moved to SSV Buer in 2000. A year later Schalke moved in for the talented youngster. Already he was destined for great things.

While at Schalke he helped them to become one of the better sides in Germany again. With his style of play he helped to create chances for himself and others. Quickly he became a favorite name at the club. He scored in the Deutscher Pokal and the Champions League. He helped Schalke to get to 3rd in the Bundesliga table. He was a part of the resurgence at Schalke.

With his apparent and rather obvious talent he was rumored to go to England as well as a whole host of Europe’s finest clubs. Lucky for Schalke he signed a big extension in 2013. He was a big reason that they advanced to the knockout stages of the Champions League that year. It almost seemed he was getting too big to keep. Juventus were interested and even tabled an offer, but it was rejected out of hand due to it being too low.

August 31, 2015 saw an end to the drama that surrounded the young playmaker. He signed with Wolfsburg. He went on to help the Wolves to advance to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. He kept scoring more goals in the tournament and has a better strike rate in Europe’s elite competition than in regular matches. The spotlight is no concern for this self- possessed playmaker.

He announced that he wished to leave Wolfsburg before the 2016/2017 season. He was allowed to leave by the club, but no suitable offers came in. He was forced to continue there. The fans booed their former hero. It was a difficult time for the young German. But all was not lost. In December of 2016 PSG agreed to terms with Wolfsburg to acquire Julian. He plays at PSG currently and is part of a club with big ambitions, as was his wish.

No one can say for sure what the future will hold for Julian Draxler, but a lack of skill will never be the issue. He’s excelled and progressed at every level and stage of his career. He’s incredibly gifted and can play anywhere across the front line. He’s a special talent that’s destined for greatness. He’s definitely a player to keep any eye on in the future.
