Inside Bets

Trio A three-number bet including 0.
Basket A bet on 0, 1, 2 and 3.
There are seven types of Inside Bets you can place on a European roulette table.
Outside Bets
Red or Black A bet on the colour of the winning number.
Odd or Even A bet on the value of the winning number.
1 to 18 or 19 to 36 A bet on “high” (over 19) or “low” numbers.
Dozens A bet on one of three blocks of a dozen numbers.
Columns A bet on which column of numbers the winning number will land on.
Announced Bets
Announced bets are a special combination of bets, which are mostly used in French roulette, and so are named accordingly:
- Voisins du Zero is a 17-number bet made up of nine chips, which covers the zero and the numbers on each side of it. To make this bet, you’ll have split bets on numbers 4/7, 12/15, 18/21, 19/22 and 32/35, plus two chips to bet on 0, 2 and 3 and two chips on 25, 26, 28 and 29.
- Le Tiers du Cylindre is a 12-number bet from 27 to 33 on the wheel. This is a six-chip bet with the following splits: 5/8, 10/11, 13/16, 23/24, 27/30, and 33/36.
- Orphelins includes the remaining numbers that aren’t covered by the previous two bets: 1, 6, 9, 14, 17, 20, 31, 34. You place this bet with a straight up bet on number 1 and splits on 6/9, 14/17, 17/20, and 31/34.
Jeu Zero is another four-piece bet with a straight bet on 26 and three splits on 0/3, 12/15, 32/35.
What Bet Should You Play?
Now that you’ve got the lowdown on all the different bets out there, how do you choose which bet to make? Well, it all depends on what kind of roulette strategy you’re going for. There are different options to choose, such as even-money bets which cover half of the numbers on the wheel while excluding the zero: odd/even, 1–18 or 19–36. These are safe beginner bets. Straight up bets are certainly more volatile but can also be very rewarding. Ultimately, roulette is a game of chance, but you can explore all the different betting options at your own pace, and at different tables.
