Prurient Puritans…Sex and the demise of Donald

It was for a moment amazing to me (all those thousands of miles away in London) how after all the appalling things Donald Trump has said and done that it is this, so called, ‘locker room ’ misogyny should have sent all the rats scurrying from the ship . This is a man who encourages violence and bigotry, who (it seems) is fundamentally dishonest in his business and personal life and who , along with Kim Kardashian and Ozy Osbourne is the greatest reality star of his age -except that he is running for Presidency. It’s not that I agree with what he says about women -god no-or his crude neanderthal objectifications (sorry Neanderthals)but there’s a sort of crazy collective prudery that sweeps over America when the conversation gets sub-umbilical. I think of the moral panic caused by Ms Jackson’s exposed breast — actually it was not the breast -but the (presumed) unveiling of her nipple which became the button that unleashed this moral meltdown. Look , I dont care what brings him down (I only wish there was someone less Republican than Ms Clinton to step up)… it’s a bit like prosecuting Al Capone for a tax infringement -I just sit and wonder why it was this particular unpleasantness that should have done it…I wonder if it has anything to do with those Puritan founding fathers…
