You make some insightful observations but I agree with some of the other commenters that the negative labelling of “freelance" is a little misguided. I find that the self development and freedom you gain working for yourself far exceeds the benefits of working for somebody else. Of course it does depend on your skills and your network, plus the country you live in (free higher education is hugely beneficial if you wish to learn something new and take a new path. Not all have that luxury). But perhaps people are breaking away from the daily slog for a reason? Perhaps this is partly a rebellion against the idea that we humans must work hard and then be discarded, as you so eloquently put it?
