What you are calling Socialism is actually Communism. The Soviet Union, China, and Cuba et al are and were the epitome of Communism. Yes, there is a major difference between Socialism and Communism. So;

*Communism is a system of social organization in which all economic and social activity is controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and self-perpetuating political party.

**Socialism is a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.

and, in the 20th/21st Century;

**Democratic Socialism (Bernie Sanders is a Democratic Socialist though they are not a political party) considers Democracy a profound commitment, as means and ends. They envision, advocate and hold the ideal of a free, democratic and more humane international social order based both on democratic planning and market mechanisms to achieve equitable distribution of resources, meaningful work, a healthy environment, sustainable growth, gender, and racial equality, and non-oppressive relationships. They reject an international economic order sustained by private profit, alienated labor, race and gender discrimination, environmental destruction, and brutality and violence in defense of the status quo.

If you are going to posit opinions on Capitalism, so-called Socialism, and markets, I’m assuming that you would want to know your talking points well. And now you do.
