amazing piece like always, a while ago i wrote a piece that has yet to be translated from spanish talking about something similar; when i engage in dicussions about feminism with people, particularly men, there is, among many other things, this notion that feminism isn’t a fair fight, because men struggle too. for the longest time i dimissed this notion in the mistaken basis that women’s suffering is more crucial because it’s loudest (also because I was very heavily influenced by this quote from Omnigale Kaliskill about how societal opression is cruelest towards women), but the more i’ve tought about it the more i’ve realized men go through a lot of shitty and unfair situations and the more i see it the more i’m convinced everything always circles back down to a toxic idea of masculinity and femineity, both with their ups and downs: women are opressed, but also taken care of, men are abusive, but also expendable and emotionally stunted.

so now i try to be a lot more conscious about the struggles men face, and i make a point of acknowledging this issues when trying to explain to someone why i think we all need feminism, because all in all, i believe now that the true social transformation most feminists want to see is not going to happen for as long as we start working on the basis that this is a two sided coin.
