THE ASSESSMENT TAIL IS WAGGING THE LEARNING DOG…

The assessment industry are in control, Kenneth. Politicians have all been through school (mainly private) so they all feel competent to pronounce on it. Trouble is, they don’t trust the teachers, so they feel the need to measure the outcomes.

This is where the assessment industry comes into play. Their lobbyists offer the politicians stupidly simple answers to a complex question: ‘how can we measure learning?’ So a fortune is spent on tests and testing, and schools become exam factories rather than learning wonderlands.

Now there’s something to ponder Kenneth…
