The Problem of Being American

Umair, well said. You’re right that there’s a meanness in the Dems that was not as obvious (to me anyway) in the past. They’re angry because it was their turn for power and they were cheated because people saw through the dirty tricks of the Donna Braziles and baulked at the looming and frightening Clinton dynasty. Trump actually let slip a few truths during the campaign and this gave voters hope that something would be shaken up.

The unseemly conniving to rig the defeat of Bernie Sanders in the Primaries spoke volumes that the Democratic Party was no better than the Republicans. In fact they’re worse because while they speak about equality and fairness, their actions reveal them to be baseless politicians who are in it purely for themselves. Like Obama, they hold ideals but only in theory. In practice, something always gets in the way of the legislation.

Today’s Republicans are assholes and proud of it. They’re gonna make sure the country is an armed camp, allow polluters and miners free rein, cut taxes for the rich and kill what’s left of welfare and health care. At least you know what you’re getting with Repubs (well in fairness, you used to before Trump).

Intelligent people realized before the election that just as in Russia or China, it doesn’t matter who you vote for because the system is rigged. That’s why Trump won. People thought, ‘What the hell’, and voted for disruption. The bizarre 18th Century relic that is the Electoral College provided the final twist.

I don’t see a way out of this. Both parties are financed and directed by corporations. Corporations are people in America(!) and those people are psychopaths, hence the savagery.
