Nice piece, Alex. Can’t speak to Android, but an obvious improvement for iOS would be to connect App Store accounts to social accounts and surface the apps our social circles discover/download.
In the App Store app on iOS, showing apps that are “popular near me” is much less helpful than apps that are popular with friends (i.e. people like me). Would be really cool to take it one step further: segment discovery by network, e.g. “popular with Facebook friends” vs. “popular with LinkedIn contacts.”
This small bit of relational context would really help—it’s the digital version of the “Hey, have you seen this app?” thing we all do.
