The generation gap refers to the conflict between two generations due to differences in opinion and values.

In this era of technology where discoveries are taking place every day, the one who does not keep himself updated lacks behind, as we all know evolution is a must for growth. Evolution is the only way to walk with life.

But in this conflict of the generation gap, neither child is wrong nor the parents are. Both want the same thing but their ways are different while parents in their traditional way in which they were told by their parents on the other hand children in their modified ways.

The generation gap can be easily seen while discussing the higher education of children, their marriage, type of job, and many other things.

let’s understand this through a few case studies.

Case Study 1: Tushar’s Career Choice

Tushar was interested in pursuing psychology as his undergrad but his parents refused him to pursue a career in the field as they had never heard of this course and also were not aware of this course earlier. They also thought that the course was not very famous so Tushar would not end up getting a good job instead they wanted him to pursue engineering as he took science in senior secondary and they thought engineering would get him a decent job. This lack of awareness about newer career options created a conflict between Tushar’s dreams and his parents’ traditional perspective.

Case Study 2: Nikita’s Freelancing Endeavor

Another case study is of Nikita. She bought online courses so that she could learn a few valuable courses and then freelance, But her parents didn’t understand how she could earn money by sitting at home and doing some small work. They considered it fraud and asked her not to get involved in these kinds of frauds. This misunderstanding further widened the generation gap.

Case Study 3: Saurabh’s Wedding Dilemma

The last case study here will be on Saurabh. He is a well-settled man, who has a decent job. His parents were looking for a suitable bride for him. He was also saving money to buy a bigger house so he was suggesting his parents for keeping the affair simple and short. His parents refuse for their dignity and pride as he is their only son and everyone expects a lavish affair at his wedding.
Saurabh tried to explain to his parents that keeping the event bigger would cost a lot of money on unnecessary things instead they can save that money to buy a lavish house and to celebrate the moment of happiness they can feed the needy.
His parents were a little convinced but they dropped the idea on the thought of what their relatives say. The clash of priorities and societal expectations led to disagreements.

Communication is the solution

In all these cases what is common is a lack of awareness among parents and a lack of experience between children. They were following what they had seen and experienced for many years. They find it hard to understand the new rules which their children come up with.

To fill this gap what is necessary is communication. Parents need to keep their point of view before children and children need to keep their point of view before their parents. They need to understand each other’s point of view and should also respect it. Small steps and small compromises from both sides can fill this gap. It just needs a little attention and understanding.

Conclusion

Life is too short to keep fighting with our loved ones. The generation gap can be bridged through open communication and appreciation of each other’s viewpoints. Parents should strive to stay informed about modern practices, and children should be patient in explaining their choices to their elders. Embracing understanding and compassion can lead to stronger family bonds and create lasting memories of togetherness.

Just cherish the lovely moments with your family, these moments won’t ever come back again no matter how badly you will want them to.
