Why Your Fears Are Actually A Good Thing….

Let’s talk about the thing here that nobody likes talking about, the “elephant” in the room. Fear. People tend to think that fear is this “boogieman” of emotions…fear doesn’t always have to be that feeling in the pit of your stomach, after you and your friends have called out for “Bloody Mary” 5 times, or the feeling of your bones trembling watching the Poltergeists calling for Carol-Anne to, “ come into the light Carol-Annnnnnnnne”…No, that’s a different kind of fear, that kind of fear is rational, like the fear of animals, or what have you.
The types of fears that I am talking about, are the more irrational kind. The kind that stops you from pursuing things that you really, truly want to do. Or the fears that stop you from being successful, because you just cant wrap your head around the fact that you are completely, and utterly, scared to FAIL.
Let me tell you though, why this is a good thing. If you never feared anything, how do you stop yourself from doing stupid things? In my opinion, now I’m obviously not a psychiatrist here, I only know the way that my own head works.
Fear is something that keeps us grounded, it keeps us level headed and always thinking of “what could happen?” it allows us to think before we do, you know, proceed with caution.
If we can find the perfect mixture of rationalized fear, and accomplishing the things we set out to do, we’d have a well thought out plan in place.
I’ve always been the person that has been SO afraid of failure, that I would just not pursue anything. Here is an example of just that.
I’ve played lacrosse for the better part of two decades, I played Junior “A” for 4 years, from there I actually ended up getting drafted into Senior “A”….You know what I did? yup, that’s right, I didn’t show up to camp, I just went down and played “B” ball instead.
Why was this? I actually ask myself this quite often to be honest. But what it really was, was my fear of failure, that I was not good enough, or whatever it was, ultimately drove me to just not doing it all, something I had done for my entire life…I know right? how messed up is that!
I decided that was it, no more. I’ve actively been trying to not let this kind of stuff get in the way of my goals. And you know what? Its been a process, but I think my life has truly become more successful since!
So I came across this trip of a lifetime, My buddy, who I played lacrosse with had just gone over to the Czech Republic for a lacrosse tournament, and I knew that I had to go, so I put my fears and insecurities aside, and I went, and oh, guess what? I had one of the best times of my life, who knew?
Nothing is ever going to be as bad as what you’ve worked it up to be in your head. Remember that folks!
Whatever fears that you may have in your business world, they are a good thing. It allows us to think before we just jump in. But we need to harness that emotion and use it in a positive way! Because if we use fear to drive us away from what we truly need, and want to do..Nobody ever wins.
But, if we used that fear to drive us toward a goal, like for instance myself, Am I scared that I wont make it in this online world? hell yeah, I am, but you know what?
I’m using that as fuel, as motivation to overcome that feeling of fear, and of failure. I’m letting it absolutely drive me to do just the opposite, of whatever it is that I fear.
Now that my friends, is why fear is actually a good thing, if harnessed in the proper way.
If we can’t believe in ourselves, how are others supposed to?
Thank you all for reading! I hope you all continue to follow me in this crazy journey that i’m embarking on!
later, for now.
