Steph Curry breaks or ties four records in game against Oklahoma City Saturday

Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry broke or tied four different records, two of which were his own, during the Warriors 121–188 overtime win against the Oklahoma City Thunder last Saturday. ESPN reported Curry tied the most 3-point field goals in one game with 12, became the first player in history to have 10 3-point field goals per game in back-to-back games, continued to raise his own record for most consecutive games with a 3-pointer and broke a record previously held by himself for most 3-point field goals in one season. Curry played all but five minutes of the game, and finished with a total of 46 points for the night.

Carolina Hurricanes trade captain Eric Staal to New York Rangers

This Sunday, one day before the NHL trade deadline, the Carolina Hurricanes traded their captain Eric Staal to the New York Rangers. The New York Times reported that Staal’s contract would be up at the end of this season, leading the Hurricanes to trade Staal for the Rangers’ 2016 and 2017 second round draft picks as well as forward Aleksi Saarela. Despite having a no trade clause in his contract, Staal waived his contract and agreed to join the Rangers with younger brother Marc.

World Cup of Hockey unveils preliminary rosters for 2016 tournament

The preliminary rosters for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey tournament to be played in Toronto this September through October were released this Wednesday. The New York Times reported that this year’s tournament will not only include individual countries, but also multinational teams like North America and Europe. With this also being the first time the tournament will be held in the preseason, the hope is for this year’s tournament to be a test for whether it could potentially replace NHL participation in the Olympics.
