An assumption here is made that applications are faster due to the operating systems. This assumes that the applications being comparing are created equally, which tends not to be the case. One can just point to Steam OS and the performance difference between it and windows in games. For the most part the difference can be placed down to more optimisations being made for one platform over another due to its importance for the target demographic, and the same can be said for tools made for programmers.

The performance point still stands, but placing blame on just the OS design feels a bit disingenuous as there are more factors at play here. Plus a mention of the Linux sub-system would have been great too :)
