Review: Best travel writing I’ve ever read. Lots of travel writers are so descriptive you can believe you watched their adventures on tv. This writer has invited you to travel with him. It’s as if you are in the auto, at the bar, or with him as he explores the historical sites of our country. A joyous read.

Review: If you’re a fan of a good travel story, the human element, and getting to know folks on a deeper level than you ordinarily might — plus a smattering of history, this is the book for you.
The premise is pretty straightforward: The author is a British guy who’s been living in the US for a while, has a bit of a life-changing event, and takes the opportunity to hit the road and see the place he’s lived in (and the person he’s lived as) before he moves back to the UK. But not just any old road — the side roads that wend their way from the very bottom to the very top of North America. Driving his trusty little Ford, he acts with the intention to get to know the people that live and work, and the places, along the way.
It’s a terrific read and I’d encourage you to give it a go.

Wasted miles by this fellow if he thinks that this book is a travelogue.
The author’s narrative was strictly to bash America. And, that was his agenda when he started.
He went to great lengths to find negative acts and culture of the Americans. On one occasion he poked back many generations of folks trying to prove his negatives.
Sir, we kicked you folks out over 200 years ago, why do you keep coming back to trash us when we
(my ancestors, Father and Uncles) fought your enemies.to save your island.

Review: I’m still reading this book and enjoying the author’s perspective of the US so far. It’s interesting to read about how he was mostly unaware of the history of slavery, and what an abomination it was, which is how most Americans feel about it as well. It reminded me so much of how I learned about the abominable way the British treated the Irish, my ancestors, for centuries, when I visited Ireland. I too was shocked by the true extent of what the British did to them, trying to exterminate the Irish by starving them, murdering them, stealing their land and livelihood, and treating them like animals. They even tried to prevent them from escaping to the US. It shows how there are lessons to be learned the world over. I am looking forward to the rest of the book and will add to my review then. I highly recommend the book so far!

Review: Modern times travel masterpiece. James Anthony has done today with The Slow Road to Deadhorse what Steinbeck did in 1962 with Travels with Charley; capture the majesty of a cross-continent road trip from Florida to Alaska. Through the point of view of a British transplant, Anthony takes the reader along for the ride through not only the continental USA, but also incorporating the times and people encountered along the way. James Anthony’s “The Slow Road to Deadhorse” will reconnect the reader with that underlying urge to jump in the car and explorer from sea to shining sea.

Review: James Anthony sets off from Florida in search of a new lease on life. So, too, did the Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce de Leon five centuries earlier, according to the myth I was taught in school. Ponce de Leon went on horseback looking for a Fountain of Youth, which was he never found. In contrast, Anthony goes by car to a known location, Deadhorse, Alaska, a quarter way round the earth, but is looking for enlivening experiences along the way. Anthony finds what he is looking for and the reader gets to come along for the ride. Bravo.
