Who will trump target?
Disclaimer: I’m Colombian and live in Colombia and I don’t vote in the U.S. election. However, I’ve lived in the United States, I have U.S. American friends and I’m -like everyone else in the world- interested about the outcome of this. So I don’t support Trump, because for me it would be bad, and for everyone it would be, but I’ll try to make sense of things here.
Everyone is talking about Trump and going back to how politics are, have always been and will be. With Trump everything has been different, and analysts don’t know why. So who will Trump target? according to analysts he will target Reagan democrats. Independents who are unsure, etc. They put all the people in a scale of how democrat vs how republican you are. Well, that’s not the only scale that matters in life. There are for example wealth scales. And the people of the establishment have a very high wealth, while most of americans are middle class, and another lot of americans are in the low class.
So what’s low class? It means you struggle to make the end of the month. Generally you work in a job where everyone thinks you can be replaced by a robot or you don’t have a job. You would love to be middle class. And then there’s middle class. In the U.S. your job allows you to afford a car, a house, a PS4. The problem is, that job you have, mostly at a factory or an office, can be done by someone thousands of miles away. A Mexican, an Indian, a Chinese, or a Colombian. And as a Colombian I can say, that job in the factory that allows an U.S. American to buy a house, allows a Colombian to rent a small room with his family, pay for the bus and worry if he’s going to make the end of the month. So what’s what you think when you hear about a new free trade treaty? Well, that’s going to hurt U.S. American jobs. So Trump only has to go, say the same speech, but now with a less Texan gun lover image, and that’s it. If you have a job you think could be lost to some Mexican because of a commerce treaty or because of illegal immigration, you will vote for Trump.
But why not for the establishment? We’ll, because it has been lying all the time. Take for example Hillary. Hillary promised the strong syndicates that free trade treaties were going to be repeled, while doing lobby for them with congressman. And they also got the most sinister tool ever: ANALYTICS. Yes. Analytics are sinister in politics, because now you can have a synthetic opinion. Hillary does not have an opinion, at all. Like any good startup, you change your opinion with A/B testing, you analyze billions of data to see what exactly your customers, I mean, voters want. The problem is, in a company you use analytics to sell what your customer want, but then you build exactly that after seeing that it sells. In politics nobody does a poll after he’s in office. Who would like a free trade treaty? Let’s poll U.S. Americans, let’s do analytics, A/B testing before signing treaties? Anyone?
And you know the worst part? Those people tired of broken promises, include Mexicans, Afro U.S. Americans, and women. There’s a lot of people who would not rally, who won’t say anything, their friends will think they are super dumb, not cool, yet will vote for Trump, because at the end of the month what matters is that you can live a good life and still have a bit of your salary left and you are in fear people from the outside are going to take it from you.
