I know you’re right. But I think one thing the law can do is make it harder for people with resources to advance their own personal interests at the expense of other people. That seems to me a worthy policy goal, and the right of children to a fair shake uncolored by the circumstances of their birth might be the only area of government endeavor where everyone can agree, if only in theory.
