Use cases of NFC(Near Field Communication)

Let us know What is Near Field Communication?

NFC enables information to be exchanged between two NFC chips — one contained in the NFC Smartphone and the other in the item

NFC requires a transmitter (in this case the item) and a receiver (in this case the Smartphone)

The transmitter generates a short-range radio frequency of about 4 cm or 1.5 inches

The receiver intercepts this radio frequency and the data contained in it

Let us know How Companies around the world used best NFC Technology in Identifying the Counterfeit Products.

1.) Walimai

Walimai’s mission is to build a retail channel for safe consumer products, thereby protecting consumers and their families from harmful counterfeit products. To achieve this, Walimai links digital assets with the physical product through RFID labels which are made with their revolutionary anti-counterfeiting technology. As the consumer scans the label on a product with their phone, they authenticate the product and are informed of its status as genuine or not. Upon scanning, the data is recorded on Walimai’s blockchain, guaranteeing a highly secure process as the data written onto the blockchain exists onward as immutable read-only information. This act ensures the RFID labeled consumer products continue to be protected by Walimai’s technology.

Walimai’s technology has the potential to tackle global counterfeit problems in a variety of industries, including infant formula, cosmetics, alcohol, and pharmaceuticals.

Triple Threat
Walimai allows companies to penetrate the China market through our safe retail channel. However, we’ve been overwhelmed with requests from brands across all industries to help secure their products and supply chain logistics with our Walimai labels.

Bearing this in mind, we’d like to elucidate the distinct products we provide by giving each a distinct classification:

Walimai Pathway
Pathway is any company’s yellow brick road into the Chinese consumer market. By the end of 2018, we aim to give Pathway participants access to over 1000 points of sale in 100 cities in China and be featured on Walimai digital touch shelves.

Walimai Guardian
Guardian is a tailor-made solution for worldwide product security in the supply chain of companies and manufacturers, protecting consumer goods with Walimai’s proprietary RFID-based labeling technology. Our labels are the most secure and user-friendly anti-counterfeit technology on the market today, and versatile enough to span across multiple industries.

WaBiPay
WaBiPay will give manufacturers and retailers immediate access to a turn-key blockchain-based loyalty system, allowing them to start rewarding their customers with WaBi. At the same time, they can attract more customers who are already accustomed to using WaBi for purchases.

2.) Schreiner MediPharm

NFC-Label for autoinjectors, in combination with a corresponding smartphone app, informs users if the product is authentic.

Schreiner MediPharm’s Autoinjector-Label wraps around the autoinjector — including the cap — and has an integrated NFC chip that is easily read with a smartphone app. Before opening the cap for the first time, patients can verify that the product is an original and receive respective confirmation. After opening the cap and label, and subsequently reading the NFC chip once more, patients receive a warning on their smartphones that indicates whether the product was previously opened and/or tampered with, enabling them to easily and quickly check the intactness of their injection aids from anywhere at any time.

Pharmaceutical manufacturers can integrate additional interactive applications in the label such as product information, demo videos or special apps to optimally support patients during self-medication. Additionally, integrated geo-tracking makes it possible to detect potential gray market activities in local markets. The digital Autoinjector-Label for NFC-based tamper evidence can easily be adapted to existing label designs and does not affect the normal application of the device by the patient.

3.) Arjowiggins

Presenting technical papers provider Arjowiggins, AFELIM member Gaël Depres praised the benefits of the company’s Powercoat paper solely developed for printing electronics, with a roughness below 10nm, not so far from that of PET. The company has also developed a platform it calls Powercoat Alive, whereby it combines printed sensors (temperature, pressure, breakage, humidity) with NFC tags to be read by smartphones. While the sensors and the NFC antenna are fully printed, they are co-integrated with a silicon NFC chip (roughly 0.1mm thick) using pick-and-place equipment.

To wirelessly connect the smart labels and packages it prints for its customers, Arjowiggins is also exploring the use of Bluetooth Low Energy chips to create BLE beacons on paper, again using silicon chips to be co-integrated with the printed sensors. Depres noted that connecting the printed circuits with the silicon parts placed on paper remains the main challenge, requiring pad bonding with a silver paste and subsequent annealing.

4.) Thinfilm shows printed NFC smart label with temperature sensor

Printed electronics specialist Thinfilm has demonstrated an NFC-enabled label that includes a temperature sensor, which can be used to track a product throughout its journey to a store and report on whether or not the item has exceeded a particular temperature threshold at any point.

5.) Xerox Printed Memory

Traditional anti-counterfeiting methods such as invisible ink, holograms and RFID tags can be copied, and are often expensive.

Xerox Printed Memory is a highly secure, printed label containing up to 36 bits of rewritable memory, for 68 billion possible combinations. As examples, such labels can be used to determine if a product is genuine and to track how it’s been handled during distribution. A second version of the label offers an added level of cryptographic security with a printed code that can only be read by a secure smartphone app.

6.)SELINKO

Ready-to-cap solution

Amcor Capsules has taken up a technical challenge by developing a specific overcap to directly embark the NFC tag. The qualitative decoration process and the discreet integration of the tag allow brands to maintain a strong and premium image. InTact is a ready-to-cap solution that requires no change on the bottling line. “We are very proud of the tremendous work accomplished by our R&D engineers”, says Arturo Martorelli, Sales & Marketing Director of Amcor Capsules. “Our priority was to facilitate the implementation of the capsule on our customers’ bottling lines. This led us to integrate the NFC tag directly in the overcap. Besides, the marketing managers appreciate the discretion of the solution that causes no disruption of the pack while maintaining a high brand image.”

8.)Sigma Ledger

The problem can be solved by having more control over supply chain and by providing Consumer with a trusted way to validate authenticity of the product. This approach assumes that for every produced item a unique identifier (SLID) is generated and attached to that item. All identifiers are stored in a secure digital storage so at any moment in time identifier can be checked against the storage.

Our solution is utilizing Blockchain-based Distributed Ledger (Ledger) to store the data.

The Ledger will provide required data protection and trust. It allows the data to be stored and managed by multiple equal parties (e.g. members of the Supply chain, such as Suppliers, Manufacturers, Distributors, etc) without central authority. This approach eliminates possibility of fraud by one/single authority. Any attempt to falsify data will be detected and rejected by the members of Blockchain network, who independently validate and control the correct version of the data.
