Hi David,
It’s also due to the maturation of the discipline. Design is usually going to be in the conversation around a product and how it differentiates itself in the marketplace. UX is one dimension of design being actively sold to businesses today, with a design thinking philosophy as a container/metaphor.
I just think it’s going to get closer to product and evolve with the times. The term ‘User Experience’ is just to ambiguous and vague in relation to what most designers actually do on the job.
