Why We Can’t Let Luddites Ruin Global Trade

Great article. I also recommend that people read Protection and Free Trade, Henry George (1886). This book demonstrates that some have known these truths for quite a long time and yet have ignored them. One quote from the book is enlightening (yet perhaps obvious), “As what is everybody’s business is nobody’s business, so what is everybody’s interest is nobody’s interest” and may help explain the immense power of special interests to drive economic policy. Protectionism and isolationism will create much more dire consequences for all of us in the long run than will globalization and free trade.
