Kik doesn’t have to rebrand their entire company, they can just offer a tool that isn’t named Kik. Based on this same argument, I could trademark the name “leftpad” and claim ownership of the NPM namespace, breaking the internet in the same way. I honestly think Azer had every right to pull his code in protest, and I’m glad he did. It made us all take a close look at distribution, trademarks, and the power of corporations over people.
