Nailed it Vince. I’ll add to your story:
Two weekends ago, I mountain biked 12 miles on a fairly technical course in right around 2 hours. I didn’t feel it at the time, but I was dehydrated and I hadn’t eaten in 12 hours. My sedentary engineering positions have fooled me into thinking subconsciously that my body doesn’t ever need to be thought for. It took me a solid 3 days to physically recover from that trip.
The mental clarity I gained from pushing my body (in a foolish way) was so valuable that I’d do it again without thinking twice. Which is what I did this past weekend, but I took two water bottles and plenty of calories with me :)
