Why you should stop paying for porn

I don’t believe that advocating for free porn is the same as taking a stand against pornography. But here are several reasons why you are wrong in your analysis. First, Porn has fragmented such that the large distributors and big name stars are not getting as rich as they once were. However, the whole entertainment industry is going the same way. Fewer features getting made. Fewer TV series with fewer episodes are introduced. More cheaply made “reality TV” series with fewer “stars” are replacing the dramatic series and miniseries of yesteryear. Porn might be suffering a little more but it is not unusual that porn is ahead of the trend. Porn is evolving to be more decentralized and more interactive. The most money is now spent on “solo” performances by web cam girls.

Second, the Tube sites are not where the bottom rung performers are gathered. They have a wide range of lower, mid, and even some upper tier productions. As long as copywrites are respected there should be no issues with these promotional sites.

Third, your porn pay scale is more or less correct and your analysis of technologies’ impact is mostly correct too. But your missing some big pieces. Most independent producers also do web-camming, other modeling, dancing etc., and by cutting out the middle man can still make a 6 figure income. This is making the whole situation MUCH, MUCH BETTER. Youth are not lured into the business by the promise of wild riches and then blow their money on drugs, fast cars, and other ephemera. Todays adult performers have to work harder, be smarter, and be satisfied with a lower (but still comfortable) pay scale, but they have more power over their careers, more choice as to what they will or won’t do, and most importantly who they will work with.

Finally, mass patronage of free sites will not kill the porn industry. The free porn sites are now supported by advertising and free content. If people don’t give them content in return for their promotion, the tube sites may be forced to change their business model but the only real way to curtail pornography is to drastically change the amount of real sex happening out there. I think this woud be worth exporing but has its limits as well. In the final analysis the state of the porn industry is a barometer that indicates the progress of our society. There is more and better porn available at cheaper prices which means our world keeps getting better.
