1st Major Processing Project
I’ve put together a quick plan for an upcoming processing project.
I’ll keep you posted on my progress. Haven’t thought through it completely, but I’m planning to learn along the way.
Name of Project: “Soundscape”
Subject:
I would like to create a visual that displays an abstract piece of art and moves or creates patterns according to the music selected as the backdrop.
The user would select for a specific track to play (mouse pressed function), and as a result the visual will change in color, speed to sync with the music notes.
I would like the image or pattern to be abstract and the music to be almost ambient sounds, and lack lyrics for the purpose of creating a very soothing and therapeutic experience for the user.
Intent:
I am a huge music enthusiast, and I know that it has a major impact on mood. I would love to connect sound and imagery to create a soothing experience for users you view and interact with this piece.
I would imagine that a user can play different sounds and patterns to help them focus during different stages of meditation.
Aesthetics:
I would like the images or shapes to lack hard edges, as this creates a more soothing effect, and also perhaps use appearing and disappearing shapes to give an illusion of lit objects against a dark backdrop.
Technique:
I have been researching ways to add a sound file to my code.
I found this reference on the Processing site:

This process of adding audio will be crucial to my project, as I have already learned how to map the direction of shapes and create movement, triggered by the user’s mouse clicks.
Process:
· Research adding audio
· Create simple pattern or shapes
· Create movement for piece and time the movement to sync with audio file
· Add audio
· Add mouse press function (button?)
· Test
