How to know when someone is talking about you on Reddit.
A few months ago I created a Reddit bot called Rockets, which streams new posts and comments created on Reddit. You can specify a set of rules to include or exclude certain content, for example “only send me comments that contain the word `coffee`”. This allows you to selectively listen to new events on Reddit in real-time.
When would I want to use this?
Let’s say you run a company called XYZ, and you would like to know when someone is talking about you so that you can be a part of the conversation. To do that, you would need to manually keep an eye on every single post and comment, which is not a realistic solution. This is where Rockets comes in: subscribe to both “posts” and “comments”, and specify that you want to receive events that contain the phrase “XYZ”.
Using the Rockets client, you can receive and handle these events however you like. If you’re using Slack, you can set up an incoming webhook and use the Rockets client for Slack to send new events to a specific channel.
