AN ARTIST’S JOB IS TO SPEAK

What is an ‘Artist’? Most definitions I’ve seen range from nebulous to profoundly simple and leave plenty of room for discussion (case in point, your question above). I believe, to be regarded as an artist, our ‘choices, thoughts, and actions’ must have been done so with a certain intention to communicate, be it one (or a mix) of the visual arts, music, poetry, writing, acting etc. Sure, one can say there is an art to living, development of a skill can be regarded as an art, but the term ‘artist’ occupies a certain context, that of intentional creation for the purpose of communication.
