Part 2 : Kim Kar-Who????

People are obsessed with celebrities. From inside it seems like a harmless pastime but when you take a step back you can see an entirely new perspective. First, as Liv says in the video below, celebrity culture is really unavoidable. No matter how disinterested a person is, it’s truly almost impossible to avoid it because it is so pervasive in our culture. Another possible explanation for the root of the obsession is the curiousity surrounding what it is actually like to be a celebrity, and the desire to see if there is any sense of normalcy in their lives. By seeing what they’re eating for breakfast, what kind of dog they have and what their kids are doing, you get the “stars, they’re just like us” view into their lives. This ideally makes “celebrity” much more accessible and much more obtainable.

What happens when celebrity life just doesn’t phase you? What? Someone doesn’t care about celebrities?! Yes — there are actually people out there like this. But, even these people have an awareness of celebrity culture. It is always interesting to hear a critique from the mouth of someone removed enough to be a “outsider” but close enough to the trend to still be able to speak from personal experience.

“It’s really unavoidable”

Liv shares her thought on celebrity obsession:

So, what is the value of picture? Which is more valuable, a photo or an interaction. The ever evolving “fangirl” putting more and more value on these celebrity pictures that it begs the question — what next?
