For a fit body, we need to train the body with many training techniques such as sports, physical exercises, yoga, healthy food, etc. Similarly, for a balanced mind, we need to train the mind in various ways and one of them is meditation. It is a technique to focus one’s mind and make it calm. In today’s chaotic schedule, meditation proves to be one of the most effective techniques to come at peace. Meditation has different benefits to different people be it health benefits, focused mind leading to better performance or it could be personal, emotional or spiritual growth.
The stable mind is able to make the right decisions and helps us to grow towards excellence. We are fortunate as we are exceptional species being human and have the potential to nurture ourselves each coming moment. Nowadays people are very much aware of the term meditation, however, they still need to know how to implement the techniques to achieve magical results of this wonderful practice.
I have tasted this medicine of meditation after my college. When it was the most sensitive phase of my life. Mind full of chaos with umpteen questions pouring in about different aspects of life. However, I was able to handle them with the nature of being optimistic which I inherited from my parents and with the help of meditation practices. I researched different techniques and used to experiment with them on myself. The results were great as I found myself focused on a peaceful mind which helped me to move forward by facing my fears. I was surprised the way I was able to manage my day from 5:30 am till 10:30 pm every day. Studies, job, and tuitions and also managing time for myself to read and meditate, I was contented though motivated and ambitious to move ahead. I always try to keep this practice as a part of my life in some way or other and hope this practice will spread to umpteen number of people and they can enjoy the benefits. This will help in developing a much better and peaceful world that can grow in the right direction of happiness.
One can start meditation at any point in life. And try to start with a short span first to be in practice. Like, start practicing with 10 minutes and then start increasing the time as per your comfort level.
2 easiest ways to start Meditation for beginners
- Sit comfortably in a quiet place. Once settled, close your eyes and focus on your breath. Start with breathing naturally and all focus should be on your breath. Be aware of your breath and focus on how your body moves while inhaling and exhaling. Slowly start taking deep breaths and try to hold your breath as much as you can. Once you start practicing you will realize that you are able to increase the time of holding your breath in each practice session even if it is by a couple of seconds. Start doing it with 10 minutes of regular practice and slowly increase your time once you are regular.
- Another way is to sit comfortably at a quiet place and start chanting any mantra (if you have) or chant “OM” or “Om Namah Shivay”. Keep on chanting the mantra by focusing in between your eyes. You can even chant it silently in your mind or even with the sound. Whenever your mind wanders, try to ignore the thoughts and focus on mantra again. You can do it for as much time as you are comfortable with. Start with small durations like 10 minutes to be regular.
