You’re Crazy.
Don’t worry, there will never be a shortage of people to tell you that you’re crazy.
Tonight, I sit here and celebrate.
First by myself, later with Lindsay.
Why?
Because I am watching LIVE FOR A LIVING unfold. Tonight more than ever.
“I want to help people”
- Lindsay Luna
Lindsay’s attention to Live for a Living, and especially her sponsorship thing, #LLSP, has been amazing. Like, truly amazing. Like, people love to use that whole “you’re amazing”-thing way too loosely, but, man… not in this case.
Lindsay said, “ I want to help people.” That’s it. Simple. Help people. And it’s beautiful because it’s broad, but perfect. And that’s exactly what she does.
There are so many ways to help people.
Our culture has sort of created this spin around helping people must look like money events or volunteer activities for the super-disadvantaged.
I don’t disagree that’s important; but there are other, less evident issues, for a larger set of the population, that will only become overtly addressed when overtly exposed.
But for now, we have plenty of noise — apathy, divorce, defeat, self-doubt, low self-esteem, …and that’s just from within. Don’t forget our friends, critics, frenemies, f*cked up families, all weighing in from the outside.
Who are we?
Sometimes, we need to test ourselves. We sometimes lose sight of who we truly are because of the noise. We question our strength, our resolve, our ability to stand in the arena even when we feel beaten. That proverbial Tyler Durden, from that scene in Fight Club where he takes a beating, but just laughs and faces the fists over and over.
That movie resonated for a reason. We pay money to crawl around in the mud and call it obstacle racing, for a reason. This weekend, your Facebook feed will have at least one friend achieving some crazy challenge, for a reason.
We are primal.
Lindsay is giving people the opportunity to take it back there. Back to their primal core. Back to where they can pick a challenge seemingly too big to complete, and then try to complete it.
Back to where, even if they fail, they fail bloody, and beaten, and laughing while taking the fists over and over.
And they will be profoundly changed, forever.
Just like I was.
