On October 18, 2023, Steve Borden, better known by his ring name Sting, entered the ring at AEW. In his promo, which was announced at the beginning of the show Dynamite, the now 64-year-old announced his retirement from active wrestling.

Well, not so fast. For a few more months we can still see the icon. His last match will be at the AEW PPV Revolution 2024.

So fans of The Stinger still have some time to prepare for the retirement of their legend. At this point, we want to take a look at Sting’s long career. Hardly anybody has influenced professional wrestling outside of the WWE as much as Steve Borden.

The beginnings of young Steve Borden

Steve Borden took his first steps in wrestling in 1985 when he competed in the Continental Wrestling Association under the ring name “Flash” as part of a group called Power Team USA.

However, the run there was short-lived and moderately successful. He moved on to Bill Watts’ Mid-South Wrestling, where he adopted the nickname “Sting” and displayed impressive athleticism and charisma. His bright personality and colorful appearance quickly made him a crowd favorite.
