“Only makes moves when your heart’s in it, and live the phrase sky’s the limit” Biggie
In his book The Icarus Deception, Seth Godin suggests that all of us are capable of being artists. Art is less about what we do, and more about how we do it. The label artist is not only relegated to those that are able to make colors vibrantly dance on a canvas. The truck driver that endures a long night of driving with the energy of a teenager, navigating roads with panache and joy, ensuring that customers receive their products on time, is an artist. In part, what makes what we do art, is the passion that we apply to whatever the art happens to be. It is when we leave remnants of our soul in what we’ve created. The art is most alive when we ourselves come alive during the creative process. Are you making art at your job? Is your business the epitome of artistic expression? Are you being an artist in your relationships? If the answer is no, the reason may be that your heart is not in what you’re doing. If that is the case, you must figure out if your heart was ever in it to begin with. If yes, then think about what must be done to regain that passion you once had. If you feel as though your heart was never in it, then think about if it can be, or if you need to do something else.
No matter if you believe in reincarnation, or a life beyond death in a spiritual realm, or believe in neither prospect, what we all can agree on, is that there is at least one life. We state platitudes about how life is precious, but we often don’t live as though it is. We get trapped for so long doing something that we feel we have to do, that we neglect the life we so desperately want to live that will allow us to be the artist we are meant to be. For so many, there is a feeling of being stuck. We must believe that we have the power to change that. We are at our best when our heart is in it. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t hurdles and mundane tasks when we pursue what we’re passionate about. This also doesn’t mean that we are always meant to do the work that brings us the most joy. What it does mean, however, is that there should be something in this life that should make you feel like an artist. You must find something that you are passionate about. You are the paint brush that is to add a unique color to the canvas of the universe. Find the artist in you by finally listening to your voice and doing the thing that makes you come alive.
