“The Sea Pig and the Sun” is a novelette that grew out of an earlier short story of mine. I’m publishing “The Sea Pig and the Sun” as nine separate sections or “episodes” on Medium — and all episodes are accessible from this Series Guide page. The episodes are public, free, and unmetered.

Each episode is a bite-sized chunk, readable in five or ten minutes, a snack for your mind. The episodes are illlustrated by paintings of mine. For more info on my art, see my Paintings Page. The art and text are all Copyright © Rudy Rucker 2022.

The notion of “eme” that I use in “The Sea Pig and the Sun” is loosely derived from Stephen Wolfram’s writings on a concept he calls the ruliad. Wolfram’s ruliad is, if you will, the collection of all possible processes, with no particular concern about which overarching universe might contain a given process from the ruliad. And the processes are made of particles of existence which Wolfram calls emes. The 17th Century philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz used the word monad for something like an eme Wolfram introduces emes in his essay, “The Physicalization of Metamathematics and Its Implications for the Foundations of Mathematics.” Read it if you dare. And why not read Leibniz’s Monadology while you’re at it!

But just for now, relax and read this wild and funny SF novelette of mine: “The Sea Pig And the Sun.”
