What’s next?

Being a newbie, the first question after creating the blog: What’s next? The answer is probably “Write a story!” So, let’s start with the “What’s next?”

What’s next in the industry?

Every industry got a trend, not only the fashion does. I am not a fashion worker but a software engineer, so I will talk about the trend in IT but not fashion. The difference is, you fill your closet with a trend defined by someone, we fill your life with the most fascinating tech trend contributed by you. You are one of the contributors, as you are the muse and inspiration.

Now, you may wonder how you became the contributors. It is as simple as the 1 and 0 in our nerdy world (well, I know it’s a bad joke). Technology, in a good way, aims at overcoming problems most of us have. For example, fibre optic network saves us from being trapped in front of the computer, just to read a blog post on Medium. 3G/4G network allows us to read it anytime anywhere (sadly, this applies to work too…). These are widely used, and became a trend, because you need it.

So, what are you going to need in the next few years, or even a decade? I just have a word in mind: Data.

You may not notice, we have tons of data circulating everyday. Weather forecasts, banking, shopping and social media, they are all about data. Here comes the point, what do we do with it? We fetch, analyse and send it back to you.

Okay, data….

First, we fetch your data. Yes, don’t be surprised, we fetch data that you can and cannot think of. Meantime, we understand that there are bad guys and gals in both the real and virtual world. Thus, we have to protect your data. This introduces the urge for data security.

Second, we analyse. We do not fetch your data just for fun (but mostly for monetisation…). A good example is to provide you recommendations when you are browsing Amazon store. Hopefully, this will make you feel better: we do not analyse your data only. Usually, a business would need to analyse thousands or even millions of data. Here comes the importance of artificial intelligence and cloud computing, which could speed up the process.

Last but not least, after the fetching and analysis, we need to store the data. In addition, people rather put their data in the electronic brain than their human brain. Demand for data storage is increasing exponentially.

To feed the demand, we have servers and data centres. However, in a business, you would get the most out of what you have. Just like travelling, you always want to keep all your belongs into a single handbag. So is data storage. Hence, we need an effective data compression.

Really?!

In short, I think the pressing trend in these years, or decades, would mainly be:

  • Data Security
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Cloud Computing
  • Data Compression

Surely, you may have different thoughts, as we do not share one brain. Anyhow, it is my blog post, not yours. 😜
