Doth Pompeo Protest Too Much?

Mike Pompeo blasts Wikileaks as a “hostile intelligence agency” often abetted by Russia.

While there has been no shortage of flips, turns, and about-faces by the Trump administration, nothing raised my eyebrows quite as much as Pompeo’s reversal of opinion of Wikileaks. By extension one can presume that this reflects Trump’s own opinion flip since 2016. I don’t think anyone needs the video here to be reminded of both Pompeo and Trump’s utter worship of the info aggregates and subsequent leaking that clearly assisted Trump in winning the presidency. But turning on Assange is not just a reversal, it’s slamming a car into reverse while traveling on a highway.

There is something a bit obvious about the timing. And it’s important.

As I’ve said before I am not a studied journalist. Most of what I am recounting is built on the solid reporting of many others. They include Louise Mench, David Corn, Rachel Maddow, Rick Wilson, and obviously Congressmen and Congresswomen. I have no personal relationships with any, I simply read their work. I have no special knowledge of my own concerning the subject. So, as I usually ask, file this under conjecture. I don’t even have the right to call this a hypothesis.

Since that is out of the way, let’s dig into what we know. We know that due to H. R. McMaster the alt-right voice of the generation, Steve Bannon, has been demoted from the Security Council and that did NOT sit well with his followers. There have been ominous rumblings from prominent alt-right acolytes including Mike Cernovich, a main driving force behind “pizzagate” claiming to have the MOTHER LODE of dirt on president Trump and is willing to post it online. Others such as Roger Stone, Alex Jones and even Richard Spencer have since threatened disfavor to the president but here’s why Mike Cernovich’s threat has me most curious.

Quoted from Salon: “If they get rid of Bannon, the motherlode,” Cernovich said Thursday. “If Bannon is removed, there are going to be divorces. Because I know about the mistresses, the sugar babies, the drugs, the pill popping, the orgies. I know everything. If they go after Bannon, the mother of all stories is going to drop. And we are just going to destroy marriages, relationships.”
“You won’t believe it,” he added.

If we take him at his word, and he actually has some sort of irredeemable dirt on Trump then it is impossible for me to believe that he came to it under his own power. It would have to have been delivered via third party… you can see where this is going.

If anything confirming the more troubling aspects of The Steele Dossier were provable beyond doubt, why would Russia directly release it? Why give up their plausible deniability? For that matter, why would Wikileaks do it? Why not leak it third or fourth party? It makes sense if you have a small army of useful idiots in America who are tech savvy enough to at least cover their asses on the surface and have them release the information for you? I realize that WE will know. It seems like something that can’t be denied. But Russia and Wikileaks most certainly will deny it even if it is as plain as the nose on our collective face. Unless we have the server it came from in our hands this way of farming it out to an American will allow them the lie.

This differentiation is incredibly important. Pompeo denouncing Wikileaks has nothing to do with distancing this administration from their collusion with Putin although that may be an accepted side affect. What this does is preempts future American alt-right activists before releasing the blackmail information that Wikileaks is fully capable of supplying them. It is now a discrediting operation for the administration.

This tells me two things. First, the Dossier is not only true but there is much more. Secondly, Wikileaks already has it.

Somehow, somewhere, sometime, someone told Trump they have it.

In the interest of fairness this is actually the second time Pompeo has had negative comments for Wikileaks. The other was during his confirmation hearing when he testified that he did not find them as a credible source of information. This is, of course, after he had spoken favorably of their email dump concerning the DNC during the election. Wherein we now have a CIA Director who is willing to use an admittedly Russian backed platform he does not believe to be credible for political purposes or…

…he doth protest too much.

Either way this car’s transmission is fucked.
