Brain Hack — Install Your Beliefs

Our brain is the ultimate story generator. We generate endless stories about who are, how we relate to the world, and what our reality is.

Listening to that voice is tricky but you can recognize it immediately.

You’re not looking good enough. You look too fat. You look too thin. You only stay at 5 star hotels. You only like to drink coffee, but only chemex. You’re sophisticated and you can only dine out at Michelin restaurants. You haven’t worked hard enough — you don’t deserve this nice treat. Your start up will fail because you have no idea what you’re doing. Your start up will succeed because you know exactly what you’re doing.

I could go on forever.

The story I caught myself telling is, You’re not effective without at least 7 hours of sleep. You always need to show up at your best. You can’t be creative or do good work without the minimum amount of sleep. Not sleeping is bad for your health.

So I tried to nap, feeling annoyed that there’s construction activity going on close by and blaming the noise for not being able to fall asleep. As time wore on, I got even more annoyed at the wasted time.

After two hours of this, I gave up and proceeded with my morning routine.
