What’s the Path of Hardship Here?

We naturally like to do what’s easy. To take the path of least resistance.

The only issue is that growth happens when we struggle.

Given the choice of going to the gym tonight or staying in with Netflix + wine, the latter option seems tempting. The same with ordering fast food vs cooking something healthy. Spending an hour on social media vs learning something new. Taking the elevator vs walking up the stairs. Saving vs spending.

Sometimes the mind will just default to the easy option without any consideration. Other times, it will choose the easy option and rationalize the choice (who knows where the economy will end up next year/it’s too cold outside to go to the gym).

It’s useful to check and see where the resistance is. Ask yourself, What’s The Path of Hardship Here? Is this path one that can be beneficial for you in the long term?

Sometimes, enduring resistance is what makes the most sense. The gym, eating healthy, pushing work through, spending time alone, saying no.

Look for the struggle.
