Think about the last time that you told somebody off. What was the benefit? Was it worth the cost?

It might feel good telling another person off in the moment. But if you’re like most people, you’ll come to regret losing your temper.

To temper your emotions, take some time to yourself and write down all the things you want to say, point by point.

And if you’re feeling the same way the next day, then you can use that material. As Tom Murphy once said, you don’t lose your optionality by keeping what you have to say to yourself. You can always tell the guy to go to hell tomorrow.

However, by acting on your impulse in the moment, you’ve lost your optionality. You can no longer reverse your decision.

When you’re in the heat of the moment next, ask yourself, Will I Regret This Tomorrow?
