Teams!

Hello! Welcome to another series of my GO-SQUADS blog! In this writing, I will introduce you my teammates who will be working with me for a 3-months project during my internship program in GO-JEK.

Meet my Pair!

Patricia Kusumaningtyas, or you can call her Pat, is a computer science undergraduate student from Columbia University. She is currently on the way to her 4th year at college and actively participating in school organisation. She found that messing with computer related stuff is a lot more fun than other science courses during high school. She built a cane to help blind people by utilising Arduino and a sensor that could detect near objects as her final project. Then, she managed to get into a community college in USA. After 2 years studying, she applied to several universities to continue her study. The fun fact is, she got into her most favourite university that she had been dreaming of. And here we are, Pat is participating to get amazing experiences at GO-SQUADS internship program!

Meet my Mentor!

Yohanes Christomas Daimler, or we usually call him Yo. He will be our mentor as well as our team member along this project. He is currently a full-stack engineer in GO-PAY International Team at GO-JEK. For over one year experiences in GO-JEK, Yo has contributed in some projects, such as maintaining GO-PAY Ops Portal, and developed an auto-withdrawal feature for GO-PAY. What makes Yo become a part of GO-JEK is the pleasure of being directly impactful to society. And… Yo loves Ruby more than any programming languages that he has ever tried on.

The Day-to-day Story Working with Team

Before I tell the story how we work in team, first I need to describe a little detail about what project we are working on. We got to develop an internal project to build a onboarding platform for new employees in GO-JEK. Although this project is purposely built for internal teams in GO-JEK, we are also planning to make it an open source as well.

In GO-JEK, we believe communication is the key for our success. That way, we spend almost our time in discussion and brainstorming to reach our best solution to every problem’s checkpoint. In order to achieve our goals, on daily basis, Pat and I are usually discussing on what we are going to do for today. We set some goals and try our best to reach them.

For example, we want to create a simple database design using Entity Relationship Diagram. Then, we set a goal that we would finish the design until 5 entities created. After reaching the goal, or when it is the time, we always have a stand-up daily meeting with our mentor, Yo. In that short time meeting, Yo will be giving us some feedbacks on our progress as well as helping us setting our next goals. We also share any idea or knowledge and discuss about it that might increase the overall development process.

There are also times, when Pat and I learn things individually. This technique could prove useful when we want to maximise our learning. Each of us can share what new things or practices to the other person, or might discuss about it if there is any different opinion. That way, we could speed-up our learning process.

To be continued…

Hopefully you enjoy this Story about my Pair and Mentor! See you on another blog~
