Tycho Solutions: Removing obstacles to accelerate the energy transition through technology
by Fernanda Godoy
Climate change is a pressing issue and a clean energy future is the key to addressing it. That’s why it’s crucial to care about transmission. Today, it’s necessary to improve the power grid and build transmission lines with higher voltage to transport energy efficiently over long distances.
The existing transmission lines are outdated, created between 1950 and 1970 with a life expectancy of 50 years. The effects of climate change have heightened the need to upgrade the power grid to prevent failures. To tackle this challenge, at Rumbo, we believe that upgrading the grid and replacing the transmission lines with clean energy solutions is the way to go.
Clean energy offers numerous benefits such as reduced emissions, cleaner air, more job opportunities, fewer power outages, greater energy and economic security, and healthier communities across the country.
Millions of dollars are ready to be invested in clean energy projects. However, clean energy companies face a common problem: the lack of quality data for their projects. This includes crucial geolocation and mapping data for substations and transmission lines, data to assess the feasibility of interconnecting new projects to the grid, environmental constraints, and social and land ownership data. These critical data needed for investment in clean energy are scattered across multiple sources, inconsistent, incomplete, or missing, requiring significant time and money to standardize.
This is where Tycho Solutions comes in. Tycho is a Mexican technology startup with operations in Mexico and Colombia. They provide updated and reliable geospatial information through intuitive interfaces, making it easy to find electric infrastructure. They have created two products to address this issue: Quadrant, a subscription-based SaaS that provides all the critical data needed for assessment in minutes, and NOVA, a product for hydrogen project development.
Tycho uses a combination of satellite imagery, machine learning algorithms, and spatial analysis to support renewable energy investors. The company is co-founded by Laura Gomez and Felipe Gonzalez, who are passionate about tackling the market opportunity to help clean energy projects enter the energy system faster, accelerating the transition to clean energy.
What do you think about this opportunity to support clean energy and tackle the challenges of climate change through upgraded transmission lines and better data solutions?”
