Plastic pollution and its harmful effects has become a critical environmental concern in recent years. Single-use plastics, such as beverage packaging and six-pack rings, contribute significantly to the global plastic pollution crisis. These items often end up in landfills, water bodies, and ecosystems, causing widespread environmental damage. According to a report by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), around 18 billion pounds of plastic flow into the ocean per year, endangering marine life and ecosystems. Almost 700 species are now known to have been harmed by ocean plastic. How to forget the daunting picture of marine life being suffocated by six-pack rings? This image served as inspiration for Jorge Reynoso (CEO), Ricardo Mulas Ochoa and Juan Francisco García, who founded E6PR in 2016, setting out to revolutionize the packaging industry with a biodegradable molded fiber solution.

E6PR has developed a high performance sustainable packaging solution, resistant to humidity, temperature and high pressures; with high tension, compression and high quality finish and printing. They have also proven the positive environmental impacts of the product, with their molded fiber packages biodegrading in 12 weeks, as compared to the plastic alternative that takes 450 years. The product is also certified non-toxic (edible by marine life), fully recyclable and has LCA evidence of positive climate mitigation potential.

They gained widespread attention and popularity as they were the first company to introduce eco-friendly six-pack rings into the market. Shortly after its creation, E6PR signed deals with industry giants such as Diageo and Heineken, supplying them with both the molded fiber rings and the applicators required for their implementation. These collaborations have not only brought E6PR recurring revenue but have also elevated the company’s profile within the industry and demonstrated the feasibility and commercial viability of its sustainable packaging solutions. The company is continuously expanding its product offerings to include a wide variety of sustainable packaging solutions. It has already closed deals with major food-focused brands, further establishing its presence in the market and helping food and beverage companies significantly reduce their ecological footprint.

We at Rumbo were convinced to join E6PR in its commitment to offer sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics. The company’s outstanding team has already shown its ability to scale, disrupt and capture a relevant market share with recurring revenues in the packaging industry (they currently have more than 500 customers across 25 countries), all while achieving proven environmental impacts. The future looks promising, with growing regulations and pledges from the biggest food and beverage companies to transition to sustainable packaging. In numbers, only can holders (E6PR’s flagship product) are growing at a 20% CAGR with a 500 million potential market.

By supporting E6PR, Rumbo Ventures not only contributes to the advancement of environmental sustainability but also recognizes the business potential of innovative solutions that prioritize the planet’s well-being. With E6PR’s continued growth and expanding product offerings, the partnership between Rumbo Ventures and E6PR has the potential to drive significant positive change in the packaging industry and reduce plastic pollution worldwide.
