Running Is Not for Women (at Least Not in Italy)

The previous post about the different behaviour shown by spectators and volunteers of a race in USA and Italy suggested me to look for other differences.

I looked at Running USA (runningusa.org). According to their “2015 Running USA Annual Marathon Report” it seems that 44% of marathon finishers in 2015 were women. Every February, a monthly magazine specialized on running publishes a list of all the marathon finishers in Italy. What do you think the percentage of women was?

13,59%

The highest percentage of marathon finisher women ever recorded in Italy up until 2014 (I couldn’t retrieve data about 2015 but I don’t expect a huge increase).

To get similar percentages in USA you’ve got to go back to 1980’s.
