Weekly Running Patterns
I am out running three times a week. Many of you will think it is a poor program but at the end of each week I am astonished to realize I could run three times.
It is always a little miracle achieving this, after all, average goal.
In the last weeks the pattern has always been the same.
- On Monday I rest (I’m European, so weeks start on Mondays not on Sundays).
- On Tuesday I should be out running in the early morning. This is at least my intention on Monday night when I go to bed. Unfortunately I am still lying in bed at 07.00 AM when I should have completed my run. I blame myself for the rest of the day and this is the true strength that let me go out running the day after.
- On Wednsday I run!
- On Thursday I rest. For a number of reasons I won’t delve here. This could become the day for cross-training (e.g. swimming). Maybe this is the right week! We’ll see.
- On Friday I still rest. Why?! Because waking up early twice in a week is something that goes behind my will power most of the time.
- On Saturday I suddenly realize I did almost nothing for the whole week and I am going to fail my basic goal of 34 km per week (21.13 miles). So the very first day I could easily sleep I manage to wake up early (oh Why?!) and I am out running.
- It’s Sunday, it’s now or never. I am still behind my goal and, to complete a meaningful weekly program I have to hit the road one more time. So here I am, running for the third time of the week.
So by Sunday night I can look at my workouts and I can see my interval training session, my long run, a negative split 11km run and I am happy about that. On the other hand, if I have to look carefully at this day by day journey it seems quite a mess! :) Yes, that’s life.
