What’s cuter than our favorite fuzzy moths? Moths you can make yourself! All you need is a printer, scissors, and a little patience.

Each template comes with written and visual instructions to help guide you through the process. If you’ve already tried our butterfly origami, be prepared for a twist, because all these species rest with their wings out instead of up! Decorate your wall, stick them to your computer, or be creative. We want to see the fun ways you use these moths. Please show us online at Flutter: Starlight.

Male Io Moth (Automeris io)
  • Starlight #020: Male Io Moth (Automeris io) — A favorite in North America, these moths are actually easy to miss. Their bright yellow wings blend-in with dead leaves, and the eye spots are only shown to give nosey predators a surprise!

A folded origami | Starlight #123: Aihuka (Declana egregia)
  • Starlight #123: Aihuka (Declana egregia) — Aihuka takes their name from the Kāi Tahu Maori word for frost. Their colors help them camouflage with lichens.

Green Blotched Moth (Cosmodes elegans) by Landcare Research
  • Starlight #122: Green Blotched Moth (Cosmodes elegans) — To migrate between Australia and New Zealand, these moths must fly over 1,000 miles of open ocean!

Cinnabars show that moths are just as beautiful as butterflies
  • Flutter #156: Cinnabar Moth (Tyria jacobaeae) — Poisons in their skin are advertised on the Cinnabar’s wings! You won’t find Cinnabar Moths in Starlight, though. They are a day-flying moth that appears in Flutter: Butterfly Sanctuary.
