How to plan a luxury kitchen on a budget
You might have saved for a long time and looked through catalogue after catalogue of the perfect luxury kitchens, so when you finally have the chance to plan yours, you want to make sure you get everything right.
You might have saved for a long time and looked through catalogue after catalogue of the perfect luxury kitchens, so when you finally have the chance to plan yours, you want to make sure you get everything right.
The best way to do this is to have a clear plan of what you want your kitchen to look like, but also how you will be using it. In doing so, you’ll be forcing yourself to consider the layout and the space carefully, so that everything flows simply and is easy to use.
Before you start
First things first! Have a mass purge of any old pans, crockery, cutlery or appliances which has seen better days or you just don’t use. There is no point building a kitchen to accommodate these bits which are likely to just take up cabinet space and gather dust.
With crockery, you should buy quality as well as a few spares. On the off chance a plate gets broken (which if you’re anything like me, it happens a lot), you might not be able to find a matching replacement.
If you have all your appliances before you start, you can make sure that everything fits in. Your fridge and oven are likely to be the biggest things in the room. If you leave space for them rather than buying them before you have your cabinets measured for and fitted, you might find that the spacing doesn’t quite work, or the colours are unappealing together. They could end up standing out against the rest of your carefully designed luxury kitchen.
Buy for the future
Luxury kitchens should, by definition, be luxurious. Unfortunately, that luxury won’t come cheap. You can get the best value from the room though if you have it fitted with the future in mind. If you’re a young couple it could be tempting to just think about yourselves, your immediate needs, and how you would currently use the room. You don’t cook often so mostly you use the microwave, and you don’t really eat at the table either. Most nights it’s just trays in front of the television. There are loads of gadgets which you’re tempted to fill your space with.
In a few years though, you might want to host dinner parties with friends, and your family might even get a few more additions. If you have relatives to stay you’re more likely to want to serve home cooked food on a dining table as well.
To accommodate for these future plans, you should think about kitting out your luxury kitchen appropriately now. That way, down the line when you find you’re using your space differently, your dream kitchen will already be ready for you.
Planning it out
The clearer your plan is, the easier it will be for you to find the right appliances, work surfaces and cabinets which suit your style. If you make timeless decisions now, and buy high quality for your luxury kitchen, you’ll save money and be happier with the final result in the future.
