What are Runes?
Runes are a new hyper-efficient way of creating discrete fungible tokens on the Bitcoin network through the use of UTXOs. They are an upgrade on previous efforts to do so, like BRC-20 and Ordinals, which can afflict the network with undue congestion and wastage or require off-chain solutions. Runes are written directly on Bitcoin itself, at minimal network load, to create the environment for all crypto utilities to thrive. Through the use of Runes, Bitcoin can begin to act as a security layer for every type of crypto innovation in the market.
