We are from the northeast Brazil and moved to NYC five years ago. When my oldest son was born in Brazil, my wife would breastfeed while walking around the city, in the mall, a restaurant, grocery store, pretty much anywhere (we went with what was called in Brazil “free demand”, where if the baby asks, you feed him)…

When we moved here and had another child there was definitely a persistent pressure against breastfeeding in public…
