Through a stranger’s eyes

cold weary nights

no food,just rotten scraps

no friendly woman

no warm,sugared porridge

no sleep today

will sit and look at the sky,the stars, the moon

shoes coming apart

can’t throw them,I won’t

might rain tomorrow or step on dirty puddles

had many shoes once,

could be on some other person’s feet

right this minute

maybe I’ll try going back tomorrow

or the day that comes next

but no I can’t remember the way

not sure I’m still wanted

better of this way

time is coming to an end anyway

nothing left to forage through

getting colder

getting smaller

won’t be looking at the sky much longer.
