Respectfully, I’d say it’s a combination of what you do know and what you don’t know that should inspire your writing. It’s not easy to separate your imagination from your exposure to some reality that you have known.

That having been said, I’m afraid that I quibble just to seem like I know something about the subject at hand. In fact, I’m applying your principle of “lying your face off.”

Your amazing article, with its counterintuitive advice, has jaw-dropping wisdom for any serious writer, and I, for one, am going to let it percolate through all of my future efforts!
