Potty Training With Alexa

A parenting hack.

My daughter-in-law is a genius! Well, she and Alexa are geniuses!

My son and daughter-in-law received an Amazon Echo as a gift from her sister this past Christmas. Alexa played music for them on command and everyone was happy. Little did she know what lay in store…

One of my grandsons, Harrison, hit the ripe old age of two and showed some interest in potty-training.

“Hey Alexa, can you help me out with potty training?” Okay, it didn’t go quite like that.

My daughter-in-law programmed Alexa to remind Harrison to go to the bathroom every half-hour during the day. Did I mention that she’s a genius?!?

Picture this: life is going along, the lullaby of music in the background, children playing together, utter bliss. The music stops momentarily for a brief message, “Harrison, it’s time to go to the potty, please.”

Problem solved, right? Well, kinda.

It turns out that Harrison now gets into negotiations with Alexa over her suggestion to ‘go to the potty’.
