I worked in IT for 15 years and came down with chronic fatigue. It wasn’t the workload alone, it was the almost psycho managers pushing for ever greater output without clear direction or targets. Each new manager wanted your output to improve by 15%. With 12 managers in a row that’s quite an expectation. I’ve left the industry and now meet up with others suffering chronic fatigue. Its early days yet but 1 in 3 I meet worked in IT. Mostly its adrenal fatigue that pushes them over the edge. There is a point where your body switches off and says “if you don’t balance your life I’ll put you in bed for good”. We are human after all.
